Mowden Hall

Mowden Hall's aim is to provide a first class education, in which every child is given the opportunity to achieve his or her potential within a broad range of academic, cultural and sporting pursuits. Above all, we believe that our high expectations, excellent pastoral care and traditional family values help Mowdenians to grow up happily and honourably. Our goal is to develop children's self-respect, confidence and sense of responsibility, together with consideration for others in the wider community. The qualities we aim to promote are curiosity, perseverance, resilience, independence and, above all positivity.

Achievement in the classroom is crucial, although we are not driven by academic results alone. The School gives children a rounded and broad education in which each child discovers their talents and interests. In particular, there is a strong emphasis on music, drama, sport, art and outdoor pursuits.

We aim to nurture the children academically, morally and culturally to help develop their confidence and sense of initiative. In turn, the pupils discover talents, interests and values that prepare them for the next stage of their education and beyond. We place emphasis on good manners, teamwork, loyalty and generosity of spirit, thus fostering respect for peers and adults alike. We believe in allowing children to be children.

Boarding is central to life at Mowden Hall and we believe that this helps children learn the value and importance of being members of a community. In the longer-term we look to engender a sense of 'what if' and 'why', so that pupils can make an impact on the modern world we live in. In this sense, our children are prepared for the rest of their lives, to meet challenges head-on and to move through the modern world with genuine intelligence and modest confidence.

Mowden Hall is a non-selective school. Following an education at Mowden, we send pupils to a wide range of schools nationally and it gives us great pleasure to confirm that, once again, all candidates joined their first senior school of choice this September. Notably, Mowden has an excellent record of achieving a broad range of scholarships to these senior schools. These include academic, sports, music and all-rounder awards.
