Sexey's is a friendly, inclusive and highly distinctive school of some 530 boys and girls, aged 11-18. It was founded in 1891 and is a leading CoE state boarding and day school with an excellent reputation both locally and nationally.

Our philosophy is to develop every young person's character and to fulfil their academic and social potential. We believe that this is achieved by setting high standards of teaching, learning and pastoral care; as well as having high expectations of behaviour and respect. As a boarding school we cater for the needs of young people and their families across the UK and beyond and have all the advantages of boarding in a small school without the enormous price tag or social pretentiousness. We are one of the UK's top state boarding schools and as a state school education is free for all pupils. Sexey's is listed in the Daily Telegraph as a Top 50 State School and is also listed in Tatler's Best State Schools in Britain. The school's performance is consistently in the top 5% nationally for academic attainment and progress and this year we achieved 65% A*-B at A-level with 34%A*-A - the highest in the school's history. At GCSE we consistently outperform other schools in the area, both state and independent - 82% 5 A*-C including English & Maths. As a result, Sexey's is officially the best performing state school in the South West topping the Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and Devon league tables. Boarding at Sexey's costs only about a third of the fees payable at independent schools. For these reasons, we believe we are an outstanding alternative to the independent sector.

Sexey's has around 250 boarders, which makes us a major boarding school in terms of size and provision. We continue to develop specialist boarding provision for the future, maintaining the highest level of care. Our boarding facilities and the rhythms of the day, the week and the term, reflect this emphasis, so that parents may rest assured that we offer a full boarding programme with the considerable educational and life-skills benefits which that brings. The opportunity for social, spiritual and personal development which boarding affords is a driving force of the school and will continue to determine our ethos.

Sexey's offers a broad range of GCSE and A-level options, as well as outstanding facilities and extensive extra-curricular opportunities, from major sports such as rugby, hockey and cricket to equestrian, sailing and motor racing. A large number of pupils continue into the Ofsted rated 'Outstanding' Sixth Form and Sexey's Sixth Form provides an excellent choice of courses and a variety of activities and opportunities for leadership. Nearly all our Sixth Form leavers choose to go on to higher education, most securing places at their first choice university including coveted places at Oxbridge and Russell Group.

We seek to remain one of the leading state boarding schools in terms of size and provision and also being at the forefront of pedagogical thinking. The Governors and staff of Sexey's are determined to offer the very best service to our students and parents.

We care about results, but not exclusively. We believe education is about more than grades: it is about an awareness of the world, about independent thought, about values. It is about the benefits of team sport, of culture, of academic ambition. It is about learning with enthusiasm. It is about growing up in a caring community where all, staff and children alike, are passionate about what they do. That is what we aspire to and we hope deliver.
