St Mary's Calne is a boarding and day school for around 350 girls aged 11–18. Approximately 80% of the girls board and it is a rich boarding life with all girls taking part in the full-curriculum and extra-curricular activities on offer. Outstanding pastoral care
St Mary's is renowned for its outstanding pastoral care. The school has a close and caring community where every girl is known and cared for as an individual. Every girl has a Tutor and in the Sixth Form (which is strong, with over 100 girls) a Director of Studies, to support and guide her through every aspect of school life; from organisational skills and subject choices through to university application.
All girls go on to higher education, and the new purpose-built Sixth Form Centre, a tailor-made lecture programme, a women in corporate culture conference, debating competitions, careers advice, leadership roles and much more prepare the girls for university and beyond. Different opportunities give the Sixth Form girls independence, yet they remain an integral part of the school and are fantastic role models for the younger girls.
Academic excellence St Mary's is committed to providing an education that will challenge and inspire its pupils, as well as helping them to achieve outstanding public examination results. In 2014, the girls continued their strong academic performance with 31% of all A Level entries graded A*. On average, 15% of girls go on to Oxbridge each year, and the overwhelming majority are awarded places at their first choice of university.
St Mary's was ranked top performing independent school in the South West (The Sunday Times, 3rd August 2014).
Beyond the classroom 80% of girls play musical instruments and take part in a wide variety of ensembles, including the renowned Chamber Choir, which enjoyed a Choir Tour to Paris over Easter 2014. Drama productions in the purpose-built theatre are of the highest standard and have transferred to the London stage. The Drama Department has a unique relationship with RADA, which includes offering a course in advanced communication skills in Year 13. In 2013 one of the students won a place on the RADA Acting Foundation Course, having competed with over 4,000 others for just 22 places. All girls work for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award, with large numbers going on to higher levels. The girls also perform exceptionally well in the Young Enterprise Programme.
In sport, St Mary's Calne is a force to be reckoned with. The school is represented at county level in several major sports, nationally in athletics and lacrosse, and internationally in horse riding, with all girls taking advantage of the on-site fitness suite and 25-metre indoor pool.
It is the individualised approach to every aspect of school life that makes St Mary's Calne special.

"I commend St Mary's Calne on being able to accommodate the realisation of girls' non-academic dreams alongside a very successful academic career. A lot of school websites say they can do this. St Mary's have proved they really can". St Mary's Calne Parent
