Hatherop Castle is a happy and exceptionally high-achieving day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 2 to 13 years. In November last year, Hatherop Castle was awarded both the ISA Award for Excellence and Innovation in Provision, the most prestigious prize the ISA can bestow on a prep school, and the ISA Award for Excellence in the Arts. It was also rated Excellent across all categories in its Independent Schools Inspectorate inspection in April of this year.
A beautiful place to spend your childhood
Housed in a Tudor castle set in 22 acres of landscaped grounds in the heart of the Cotswolds, this is a magical place in which to spend your childhood. Here our children are challenged and supported to explore the world and their surroundings, try new things, take risks, grow in ability and confidence and fulfil their potential. There are endless opportunities to shine academically, in the visual and performing arts and on the sports field, and lifelong friends to be made in this warm, family environment.
Common Entrance success
Our carefully crafted Common Entrance programme in Years 7 and 8 leads to huge success at 13+. All our children gain their first choice of entrance to leading senior schools in the South West and further afield, with a high proportion of scholarships and prizes. By the time they leave us, our pupils are confident and eager to take the next step in their education.
A happy boarding house
Our extremely flexible boarding options, from full time to ad hoc days with anything in between, are popular with parents and pupils alike - boarders maintain that the day boys and girls miss out on all the fun. The boarding community is a warm and happy one, and the perfect introduction to life in a boarding house for children who are planning to attend a boarding senior school. As well has having the run of our beautiful building and grounds – hide and seek by torchlight is a popular Hatherop tradition – children spend every weekend enjoying an exciting and diverse range of activities, from tree running and museums, to mountain boarding and theme parks. We provide a pick up service from London Paddington for weekly and termly boarders.
Promise for the future
Hatherop Castle joined the Wishford Schools group in 2014. Since then it has been undergoing a huge programme of development, which permeates all parts of the school, from renovation of the impressive building and grounds, to provision of new educational resources in all departments, investment in expert staff and, not least, the fabulous new Performing Arts Centre, which will throw open its doors for the first time for our Upper School Production in July.
