King Edward’s Witley, a co-educational independent British boarding and day school for pupils aged 11-18 is sited on a stunning 100-acre campus, in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in Surrey.
The School benefits from a convenient location, ten miles south of Guildford and within a 45-minute drive of the UK’s two main international airports, Heathrow and Gatwick. The nearest local train station, Witley, is a five-minute walk away, providing easy access (50-minute train journey) into central London.
Founded in 1553, King Edward’s enjoys established links with the City of London and the School embraces its illustrious heritage, successfully combining time honoured traditions with a thoroughly modern outlook consistent with the requirements of a world-class centre of excellence. Regardless of the significant changes since its inception, the School has never lost sight of its fundamental ethos of diversity and commitment to the pastoral and education needs of the children it serves.
King Edward’s Witley is an early adopter of the IB, ranking as one of the UK’s top 25 co-educational day and boarding schools offering this prestigious course. Although the majority of King Edward’s 170 Sixth Form pupils follow the IB Diploma programme, 2017 saw the first cohort of 18 students taking the new A-levels as a preferred route to university or employment. Over the past five years, an average of over 70% of IB pupils achieved grade 7-5 (equivalent of A*, A and B at A-level). In 2017, the average points per pass was 32.5 (out of a possible 45) and seven pupils scored 40+, enabling students to take up preferred university places in the UK (including the University of Cambridge), as well as the US and overseas. The School also offers a one-year Pre Sixth Form course for overseas pupils to allow for the development of language skills and trial of the IB subjects on offer, in addition to the acquisition of the thinking and learning attributes consistent with Sixth Form study.
Facilities at King Edward’s include a state of the art Business and Finance Centre, dedicated Sixth Form Common Room, superb sports programme and access to a wide range of outdoor pursuits and activities including the renowned Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The School excels particularly in football for both boys and girls, music and drama and all pupils are involved in charity work spanning several continents. 65% of the pupils are English native speakers, King Edward’s Witley also has pupils from over 40 countries around the world.
In December 2015, the School received an “excellent” rating (equivalent to Ofsted “outstanding”) in all nine inspection areas from the Independent Schools Inspectorate.
