Ashdown House

Ashdown children are encouraged to be individuals whilst learning to live as part of a community. We want all our children to leave us with a passion and offer them a wide range of opportunities to try. Whether your child finds their interest in Science, Design and Technology, Chess, Drama, Mandarin, Music or making dams and climbing trees we feel sure there is something for everyone.

With one of the most beautiful sites in the South East, Ashdown is fortunate to be able to benefit from its proximity to London, the coast and Gatwick Airport as well as a host of historic and cultural places of interest. Fifty acres of grounds give the children everything that they might need from playing fields to 'pets' corner' to an indoor pool to our very own Jungle.

As part of The Cothill Educational Trust, we benefit from a Chateau in France and a field centre in Dorset to which children go for part of a term. Children move on to the top national public schools and scholarships are regularly won in the academic field, as well as in art, sport, drama, music or 'all round ability'. Good manners and an ability to look success and failure in the eye and meet each equally are expected and Chapel is very much the core of the community. The Headmaster and his wife ensure each child – and his or her parents – are made to feel very much part of the Ashdown family. Discussion between parent and headmaster is key to a child's success both personally and academically. The pastoral care in the school is second to none and a full weekend programme is offered to boarders. Strong links with public schools are forged to ensure that, when it comes to the choice of public school, the child is 'matched' with the right school.

"I wish I was a child again and could come to Ashdown" has been a parent's reaction on more than one occasion!
