The Beacon: Traditional Values - Contemporary Education
The Beacon is a magical independent day school for boys aged 4-13, nestled on the edge of the Chilterns in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. From the moment your son arrives at The Beacon, he will be encouraged, educated and enthralled by a dedicated team of professional teachers and staff with one aim: to make every day at school a memorable one.
21st Century Fluencies The Beacon is a school where boys thrive and acquire learning and social fluencies to last a lifetime. We equip boys with ‘fluencies’ in academic, extra-curricular, and community pathways. In an ever-evolving world, it’s more important than ever to be able to adapt, adopt and innovate. Your son’s first steps in education will be an adventure of discovery in a stimulating and secure environment. The Fluencies are part of our PSB (Prep School Baccalaurate), designed to foster leadership, independent learning and breadth of knowledge as your son progresses through the school, giving your son time and space to explore the subjects he really loves.
Building Core Strengths The Beacon’s five core values are at the heart of everything we do from day one. Wellbeing, respect, integrity, achievement and courage are fundamental to the life of the school and the success of every boy. In a world of targets and assessment, we are determined to maintain our emphasis on the importance of identity and individual sense of place within the community to ensure every Beacon boy can thrive. Expert teachers will work with your son to create a solid foundation upon which he can build and develop academic achievement. Wherever your son’s talents lie, he will be supported and encouraged in every discipline to explore, create and achieve.
Beyond the Classroom Beacon boys are known for they ability to seamlessly step from the classroom to the sports pitch to the stage. We have wonderful facilities for our sports for all programme with a large playing field overlooking the countryside, a swimming pool, all weather surface, sports hall and an outdoor mini climbing wall. Our sports teams compete at the highest levels for their age groups and equally, at the widest ability range to encourage every boy to participate in the right sport for him. Our Performing Arts programme has an impressive two theatres for large or small productions with a busy calendar of plays, concerts, and speaking opportunities for all age groups. During his time beyond the classroom at The Beacon, your son will gain vital fluencies for adulthood; teamwork, creativity and a can-do attitude.
