Repton School

Repton School is a very special place to study. Founded in 1557, the co-educational boarding school is an integral part of the village of Repton in South Derbyshire and is based around a 12th Century Augustinian Priory and its stunning Garth and Cloisters.

With around 650 pupils, the school is large enough to create a 'buzz' but small enough for all to flourish and to know one another. There are ten Boarding houses and all meals are taken within them, further reinforcing the family and caring atmosphere. Boarding at Repton has an inclusive nature: pupils of all ages, boarders and day pupils alike, and staff too, are thoroughly involved in the community, be that competitions, House plays, fundraising events or just everyday life. Reptonians develop and grow in an environment that is friendly, stimulating, sociable but structured, and they respond enthusiastically to this opportunity.

Academic work is at the heart of the School and the overall aim is to allow each pupil to develop his or her potential to the maximum. Each year around 10% of pupils are offered places at either Oxford or Cambridge Universities.
The Arts also flourish at Repton. Numerous productions run throughout the year, ranging from plays to art exhibitions and fashion shows. Music has a major role at the school – the department is home to a recording studio and beautiful concert hall.

Repton is recognised as one of the top sporting schools in the UK, excelling at Hockey, Football and Tennis. A long tradition of sporting excellence gives Repton the experience required to maximise every pupil's potential. To help achieve this, the school offers outstanding facilities and an exceptional team of coaches which includes former international sportsmen and women and professional coaches.
Famous alumni can be named in every discipline. There's author Roald Dahl, poet James Fenton, journalist Jeremy Clarkson, polymath and Rector of the Royal College of Art Professor Sir Christopher Frayling, Formula One technical director Adrian Newey, and actors Basil Rathbone, Graeme Garden and Tom Chambers.

In sport, famous names span the centuries – Olympic gold medallist Harold Abrahams, made famous again by the film Chariots of Fire; C B Fry known as "the King of Sport", Wimbledon finalist Bunny Austin; Test and County cricketers including, Richard Hutton, Donald Carr and Chris Adams and footballer Harry Cursham who still holds the record for goals scored in the FA Cup. At London 2012 Old Reptonian Georgie Twigg won a bronze medal with the GB hockey team and this summer five ORs were selected for the Rio Olympics, with four as members of the gold medal women's GB hockey squad, and one as a member of the bronze medal German hockey squad.

At Repton individuality flourishes within the context of a real community, and every pupil is encouraged to discover those areas in which he or she can excel and to prepare for the world of possibilities that lie beyond the Arch. Repton is an all-embracing and dynamic place to be at school.
