St. Nicholas Preparatory School is a British prep-school based in South Kensington. Overlooking Hyde Park, the school is located in a spacious, Grade II-listed Victorian building with direct access to an enchanting two-acre 'secret garden' at the rear. We are a short walk away from Imperial College Sports Centre, the Royal Albert Hall and other renowned sites such as the Victoria and Albert and Natural History museums.
The school offers a unique educational experience for 3-11 year olds that begins in a fully accredited Montessori Nursery and Reception, where the Montessori Philosophy is combined with the Early Years Foundation stage. Children aged 5-11 move on to study the new English National Curriculum and, in preparation for their 11+ entry exams, the ISEB curriculum in Years 5 and 6. Our ethos is to nurture happy, confident and articulate children who will take with them into secondary school a love of learning.
We offer a secure, structured and nurturing environment that encourages each child to fulfil their own academic potential. Small class sizes, a personalised approach and a focus on developing key skills in literacy and numeracy builds confidence in all our children. Pupils benefit from library lessons in our wonderful, well-stocked library, from specialist teaching in PE, Art, French and Music, and from swimming lessons in a purpose-built 25m swimming pool at Imperial College Sports Centre. They also enjoy the use of impressive external venues for performances and prize-giving ceremonies.
School plays, concerts, curriculum related trips and residential trips of high adventure all enhance the educational experience, as do inter-school and inter-house sporting competitions. Our extracurricular programme includes a breadth of activities ranging from Judo to Lego, Cookery to Football, Ballet to Creative writing and much more, and children can learn to play a range of musical instruments, tutored by some excellent teachers.
Pupils of St. Nicholas Preparatory School are inquisitive and happy to learn. With teaching methods and facilities that create a lifelong passion for learning, children leave St. Nicholas proud of what they have already achieved, fully prepared to embrace new opportunities and to experience further success.
